Interview With Dark Web Vendor SeLAMiNY
Interview With Dark Web Vendor SeLAMiNY
Mention the dark web and you probably think of an underground network full of creeps and criminals. A place where amorality is usual and dark intentions rule. But is all that really true?
We spoke to SeLAMiNY, a drug market vendor on the dark web to find out.
For those who don’t already know, who is SeLAMiNY?
Well basically we’re a xanax bar vendor. We press xanax and sell it on the darknet, usually in bulk amounts. Been doing it for about two years now with this team, on alphabay, then empire, and more recently whitehouse and darkmarket.
Were you working with another team prior to the last 2 years?
Well I personally have been involved in xanax production for a number of years, but my team now was formed around this time 2018. I remember xanaxking getting busted, he was really the first darknet xanax presser.
How were you first introduced to the DNM scene and how did you get into doing what you’re doing now?
Hm well I think I first heard about bitcoin around 2013, and that kind of lead to learn about the darknet. I downloaded tor for the first time like everybody else and learned how it all worked, started making a few orders, then figured I could probably make money selling drugs. So I looked around on the forums seeing what people had to say about the best drug to sell on the darknet, and everybody said xanax. I don’t personally do xanax, except after a psychedelic trip to help the come down. So I contacted a popular overseas source people were using to buy alprazolam, the active ingredient in xanax, and I had it delivered to me. And so started my ‘career’ I guess.
How was your OpSec when you first started vending?
Well even back then there were plenty of resources to learn about opsec. It’s pretty simple to have good opsec, even as a beginner. If you use Tails, it has everything a person who knows nothing about the darknet could use. And it is very secure as long as you have common sense about your password. As far as the packaging and shipping stuff, I made a few orders from a few vendors just to see how they packaged stuff, and pretty much copied that. It seems like the de facto shipping style of the darknet is 1. vacuum seal and 2. mylar smell-proof bag.
It’s weird to think that I first learned these things on reddit, before /r/darknetmarkets was banned. It’s hard to imagine these days that reddit was once the central forum for the darknet.
Being in this business you’re in, and for so long, it’s got to have some stress and paranoia that come with it. How do you handle it all?
Man that’s a tough question. Yeah it’s really stressful when you’re dealing with large amounts of money and product, let alone dealing with strangers on the internet, and not to mention it’s illegal. But I think the saving grace is that we can be reasonably sure nobody is going to come shoot us, except maybe the police if they catch us. There’s no violence online, like there might be if you were selling drugs on the street. I probably wouldn’t be selling drugs on the street, that sounds way too stressful and difficult.
What is your motivation?
Well I guess these types of things start about making money, and then you get a sense of purpose in what you’re doing, even if it’s selling drugs. I like doing it. I think we’re seeing a shift in how people interact on the internet, with bitcoin, smartphones, and social media, and darknet markets it’s just exciting to be a part of that.
Worst experience with a customer?
There’s a lot of really annoying fucked up customers who aer tpynig liek thiese who are impossible to understand. People will be fucked up on xanax and not even realize it. There’s a few I talk to regularly but nothing that really stands out too much really.
Do you have any tips for buyers and other dark web surfers?
If something is too good to be true it probably is. Don’t trust vendors, test your drugs. Don’t deliver drugs to your parents house.
What are your thoughts on crypto at the moment?
I think it’s clear at this point that bitcoin is going to continue to rise and be used as a store of value as well as a digital currency. I think monero provides good use for us and will probably continue to be used along with bitcoin for drug sales. I’m confident that the smart contract coins like ethereum are gonna start seeing real utility in the next few years, and the landscape of the financial industry is going to fundamentally change.
As far as anonymity goes, do you think crypto is headed to a good place for everyone on the dark web?
Tor and monero provide more than enough anonymity for anybody buying drugs online. As long as people start moving away from bitcoin for their orders we’re in a good place. But there is a lot of blockchain analysis being done and you can never take back a bitcoin transaction once it’s sent.
With things like blockchain analysis in mind, do you ever worry about things you’ve done in the past catching up to you?
I have always been careful with my bitcoin, and there are probably limits to how certain you can be about two bitcoin transactions when you mix and exchange it. One company has claimed to been able to trace monero, but again there’s only certain probabilities transactions can be related and I’m confident there won’t be much information they can gain from it.
If you could go back in time is there anything you would you do differently?
Hold more of my bitcoin, for sure. I knew that bitcoin was going to rise, but I never knew it would be so fast. I would have spent much less. It’s almost hard to think about, and I’m sure a lot of people can relate that they would pay 1 bitcoin for a few grams of weed or something.
Favorite/least favorite market right now?
Well that’s an easy one. White House market permanently banned us and stole our entire balance for posting our own contact information on our page. FUCK YOU MR WHITE. Could have just asked me to remove it. It’s a piece of shit market too with a shit UI and forced PGP for everything makes it awful to use. None of the markets now impress me or do anything that special, but my all time favorite market was definitely Agora, they were reliable as hell and when they retired, they didn’t exit scam and told everyone to withdraw their bitcoin. That has basically never happened and I will always appreciate that from them.
Any last words before we wrap up?
I appreciate you talking with me, always fun to see new sites come up. I’m glad I could talk about some of my experience to maybe help someone learn more.
